Gary Moore 1952-2011

While never one of my top-top faves, Gary Moore was obviously a superb guitar player. He excelled at blues, hard rock, and metal-esque shredding and from my time as a constant reader and sometimes writer for guitar magazines, I remember reading a lot about him, especially in the early to mid 80s.

I really liked his work with Thin Lizzy and he was an on again/off again partner to the great front man for Lizzy, Phil Lynott, until Phil’s untimely death in 1986.

Here are the two of them, along with very cool, underrated guitarist Scott Gorham, rocking out in Australia in 1978. Even though Gary’s still a young guy and doesn’t get to stretch out very much, he packs a lot of energy and PURE ROCK into all of his parts. His solo on Cowboy Song contains everything that got me into playing guitar in the first place.
